| Cafe Andreotti By R. H. Duke Harrah's Hotel-Casino proudly touts its charming Italian restaurant Cafe Andreotti, a two-tiered eatery seating a total of 160 guests. The lower tier, reminiscent of outdoor hillside trattorias of Italy, is accented in hues
of gold, rust, tan and traditional Italian red, white, and green. The high ceiling with a skylight and vines twisted around overhead beams create an indoor open air dining venue. An exhibition kitchen is accented by columns and rock archways highlighting stucco walls that depict colorful floral paintings. The upper tier's warm toned wall murals, arched paned windows, and beautiful stone fountain capture the ambiance of Italy, resulting in a dining experience as authentic as possible.
Cafe Andreotti's menu lists the variety of traditional pastas, veal, chicken and pizzas in addition to savory "signature items" identified with the letter "A" on the menu. These include Chicken Arrosto, Shrimp Scampi, Tortellini Andreotti, Veal Andreotti, Vegetable Lasagna, and the Michelangelo Pizza (create your own 4 topping pizza with such items as pine nuts, sun dried tomatoes, prosciutto, and marinated artichoke hearts).
Prices are reasonably
moderate: entrees $12.25 - $23.95; soups, salads, appetizers $4.25 - $10.95; pizzas $8.75 - $9.95. A complete wine list (both by the bottle and the glass) offers moderate prices.
Manager Mark Gilbert's expert staff is cheerful, friendly and always ready to explain menu items to the uninitiated in Italian cuisine. Chef de Cuisine Georgia Nieddu, born on the Italian island of Sardinia and raised in the coastal city of Genoa in northern Italy, reflects the excitement in
describing the fresh approach to the cuisine and the measures taken to ensure full and authentic flavors.
This reviewer is pleased to recommend the house favorite Tortellini Andreotti--gorgonzola stuffed pasta in a rich lemon-garlic butter sauce with smoked shrimp, fresh spinach, and sun dried tomatoes. The Seafood Fettuccine is also an excellent choice--sea scallops, shrimp, baby clams, and Dungeness crab sautéed in garlic butter, tossed in fettuccine with a choice of either
spicy red clam sauce (flavorful) or basil pesto cream sauce.
