Gatsby's At the MGM Grand Hotel, Gatsby's is the gourmet room and Chef du Cuisine Terence K. F. Wong and his culinary team reign supreme in menu presentations that excite the eyes as well as the palate. An exceptional dining experience is anticipated upon first impression of seeing the elegant art deco dining room, featuring light to medium tone wood, flowers, granite accented buffet counters, framed mirrors, intricately carved gilded trim, with table settings of fine Riedel Crystal Sommelier Series and Cristofle Silverware from France to compliment the colorful Bernardaud Limoges china from France. In addition to the two semiprivate dining areas and the main dining room, the Chef's Table is a privately enclosed area with a glassed-in wall to view the culinary staff in action that must be reserved well in advance. The service ranks among the best in Las Vegas with a wait staff that is pleasant,
efficient, never obtrusive, and changes silverware after each course signaling the next course is to arrive. Silverware is presented from a napkin-lined tray, and all stemware is brought from enclosed shelving in the service area--a nice touch. Gatsby's cuisine is upscale Continental with a slight Asian flair (Euro-Asian), and features fine gourmet fare such as Genuine Kobe Beef (from Japan), Farm Raised
Ostrich, Venison, Duck, Escolar, Ahi Tuna, Chilean Sea Bass, and Abalone expertly prepared and artistically presented. Each plate is specifically selected in size, shape and decor to accommodate and enhance the item being served. Menu selections change seasonally. The wine selection represents the "Wines of the World" listing of over 400,
including many of the best vintages available. All wines over 10 years old are decanted in an expert ritual from bottle to decanter using the candle method. Any wine may be decanted upon request. I highly recommend the Sautéed Sea Scallops "Francaise" appetizer, prepared with Portobello mushrooms and sun-dried tomato-basil orzo with aged port wine
coulis--a tantalizing beginning. Another excellent choice is Gatsby's Homemade Foie Gras Terrine with truffle coulis, brioche toast points, and a sherry reduction. Follow with a second course of Gatsby's Salad--Kenter field greens with roma tomatoes and Roquefort cheese, served with Gatsby's own lemon-thyme balsamic dressing--a flavorful accent to a beautiful presentation. The Chef's Signature entree is a favorite among repeat patrons. Seared Ahi Tuna with Sesame Seed
Crust accompanied by Wasabe Buerre Blanc oriental glaze and seasonal vegetables--a delight to the palate of all Epicureans. If meat is your preference, don't miss the Sliced Slow Roasted Maple Leaf Farm Half Duck marinated in the Chef's own Asian spice blend served with seasonal vegetables. Finish with the delectable Chocolate Napolean--crispy chocolate sheets layered with three types of chocolate (mousse, white, and dark) accented with mango and blackberry. For gourmet fare expect to $75 and up per person for appetizer, salad, soup, entree and dessert, excluding tax, tip and wine. It is well worth the price for the quality, diversity, flavor, and expert preparation by a culinary team that cares. Wines are priced at $30 and up per bottle. Gatsby's, recipient of Southern Nevada Hotel Concierge Association "Best
Restaurant Award" has set a new standard for elegance in dining, and meets every aspect for the criterion that define fine gourmet dining. Gatsby's is located inside the MGM Grand, and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 to 10:00pm. Please call (702) 891-1111 for reservations.
